A useful fit for

For a relatively compact crawl space or basement with a lower gravity drain, a 35-pint AHAM need and an ENERGY STAR requirement.

The main tradeoff

There is no documented lift pump or app control. The included gravity hose is 6.5 feet, so the site drain needs a real downhill route within a confirmed installation layout.

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the Helios D35 meet a 35-pint AHAM minimum but fail a 36-pint minimum?

Its exact sheet and page state 35 PPD at AHAM conditions and 70 PPD at saturation.

The AlorAir Helios D35 is a compact 35-pint-AHAM crawl-space dehumidifier whose central tradeoff is simple: it has an ENERGY STAR 6.0 claim and a supplied gravity hose, but no documented lift pump or app control.

I used the exact Helios D35 product page, its model-specific October 2025 specification sheet and the linked May 2025 manual. They identify the D35, not the pump-equipped Helios MP35.

Compact body, 35-pint rating

The D35 is rated at 35 pints per day at AHAM conditions and 70 pints at saturation. Compare its AHAM rating to other products’ AHAM values; saturation is a separate, much wetter condition. The manufacturer markets coverage up to 1,000 square feet, but that does not account for soil moisture, air leakage, climate or water entry. It is context, not a substitute for diagnosing a crawl-space problem.

The sheet lists a 115-volt supply, 25.13-pound weight, and an exterior size of 16.4 by 11.25 by 10.76 inches. AlorAir lists operation from 37.4°F to 100.4°F. Its exact page says 52 dBA while the specification sheet gives a below-52-dBA bound, so I do not treat either statement as one precise sound rating. The exact spec lists ENERGY STAR 6.0. The size and weight can make access planning easier than for larger crawl-space appliances, but allow room around the intake, outlet and service panels; the cabinet still needs to sit level and accessible for filter care.

Gravity drainage only

The exact page and manual describe gravity drainage, and the package sheet lists a 6.5-foot drain hose. The hose must continue downhill to an outlet lower than the drain port. There is no documented pump in this configuration, so it cannot discharge upward to a sink or window. If the floor drain is not lower than the installed unit, this model’s energy certification does not solve the routing problem.

The manual describes grounded/GFCI electrical precautions, an RH setpoint, GPP-related controls, memory restart and filter maintenance. Those instructions matter in a crawl space where an appliance may be checked less often than a living-room unit. The fitted hose length can help evaluate the route, but it does not establish an allowable longer run; do not plan a distant drain based only on the included 6.5 feet.

Who benefits from the D35?

Choose it for a smaller crawl space or basement where 35 pints AHAM is appropriate, gravity can reach a lower drain, and an exact ENERGY STAR 6.0 statement matters. The absence of a pump may be an advantage in simplicity if the site already has a good downhill outlet. It is not a fit when water must be lifted or when remote phone control is essential: neither is documented for the exact D35.

For a pump route at the same rated capacity, compare the Helios MP35; it adds a pump and a published vertical lift at the cost of a larger body and more installation decisions. The Sentinel HD35P WiFi also has a pump and confirmed app control, but its exact setpoint range conflicts between sheet and manual. These are different models, not feature variations to combine on paper.

What the number does not promise

A square-foot maximum is not a moisture-removal guarantee. A crawl space with standing water, a torn ground membrane or a foundation leak needs the water source fixed. Nor does ENERGY STAR certify that an appliance will keep every space at a chosen humidity. Use the setpoint as a control target and monitor the area; don’t infer mold prevention or health outcomes from the product listing.

The sheet states 35–90% RH, and the manual’s controls are described as GPP and RH. That gives more explicit setpoint evidence than the Helios MP range, but it still does not make the controller a calibrated environmental assessment. If a narrow threshold is essential, verify the actual control revision and use a separate appropriate humidity monitor rather than treating a marketing specification as a room measurement.

Installation and care

Before ordering, compare the 6.5-foot hose path with the actual height of the drain, make sure the outlet is continuously lower, and check whether the smaller cabinet can be leveled and serviced through the opening. Keep the filter reachable for regular cleaning and use the grounded supply required by the manual. If the route is uphill, choose a pump-equipped product; if app control is mandatory, choose an exact WiFi configuration rather than assuming every Helios carries a wireless radio. The Helios D35’s value is a clear, modest-capacity crawl-space setup with a documented gravity route and certification, provided the room’s moisture load and drain position suit it.
