A useful fit for

A larger crawl-space or basement installation where a 100-pint AHAM rating, a pump-drain route and a short duct layout are all useful; verify the actual pump elevation and line length before installation.

The main tradeoff

The pump and duct functions are documented, but maximum pump lift and total hose reach are not. A 19.6-foot pipe label does not establish vertical lift. Remote operation is a wired optional control, not verified Wi-Fi/app control; exact refrigerant claims conflict.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the HDi100 satisfy a 100-pint AHAM minimum but fail a 110-pint minimum?

The exact current sheet and linked manual list 100 pints/day at AHAM conditions, 78 at the separate DOE condition and 220 at saturation. Only the AHAM value is used as the standard capacity profile; the saturation label is not substituted.

Does the HDi100 support a general pump-discharge route but fail an essential one-foot maximum-lift check?

The exact manual documents an integrated pump and automatic normal drainage but gives no numerical maximum rise or total hose reach. Its labelled 19.6-foot pipe cannot be treated as a lift rating.

Can the HDi100 meet a short ducted-installation need without claiming app control?

The linked manual documents 10-inch inlet/return and supply flex duct with a 10-foot maximum total run and optional adapters. It documents an optional CAT5 wired remote, not Wi-Fi/app operation.

The AlorAir Sentinel HDi100 is a large crawl-space or basement dehumidifier for installations that can use a condensate pump and, where useful, short duct runs. Its 100-pint AHAM rating is the relevant comparison point; the larger saturation figure is not the everyday rating.

I reviewed AlorAir’s Sentinel HDi100 product page, the linked HDi100 specification sheet, and the installation and operations manual. Ratings and feature statements below are manufacturer claims, not independent performance measurements.

Use the AHAM rating, not the saturated-condition headline

The current specification sheet lists 100 pints per day at 80°F and 60% relative humidity, 78 pints per day at the separate DOE condition of 73°F and 60% RH, and 220 pints per day at saturation. Those test points answer different questions. If your minimum is 100 pints at AHAM conditions, this model meets that threshold; a 110-pint minimum is not documented. Do not treat the 220-pint saturation label as a 220-pint AHAM result.

AlorAir markets the HDi100 for spaces up to 2,900 square feet. That area figure is not a moisture-load calculation, especially for a crawl space where ground cover, outside-air leakage, seasonal temperature and water intrusion can dominate. It is not a fix for standing water or a failed drainage system. The sheet also lists 250 CFM, a COP of 2.7 L/kWh and sound pressure below 60 dBA. These are useful published comparisons, not a guarantee of the output or sound level in an installed space.

A pump is useful, but the lift limit is missing

This configuration has an integrated condensate pump. The manual describes automatic drainage in normal operation and a pump-reservoir drain button for storage or moving. That gives it a different water route from gravity-only dehumidifiers: it can discharge to an outlet above the unit, subject to the pump’s actual limits. However, neither the exact manual nor the specification sheet gives a numerical maximum vertical rise or total pump-hose reach. The product artwork labels a 19.6-foot water pipe, but that label does not establish a 19.6-foot vertical lift, a maximum run, or what is included in every package. Measure the route and have AlorAir confirm the allowable rise and total line length before relying on it.

Do not confuse the pump with a bucket-free promise. The documents describe an internal pump reservoir and a button to empty it for transport or storage; they do not establish a separate fitted collection bucket or an exact bucketless questionnaire mode. The exact profile therefore treats a generic pump route as documented while declining to satisfy a numeric lift requirement. If the outlet is below the machine, ask whether a gravity-only installation is approved for this exact configuration rather than borrowing a mode from another Sentinel model.

Ducting changes where the air can go

The manual has a ducted-application section: both inlet/return and supply grilles are designed for 10-inch flex duct, with a maximum total duct run of 10 feet. It describes placing the appliance in one room while conditioning an adjacent area. The inlet/outlet adapters are optional accessories, so budget space and compatible fittings into the installation instead of assuming the collars arrive in the box. A short, properly laid-out run may help when the unit itself cannot sit in the space being dried; the manual’s length limit makes a long remote-air plan a poor fit.

For a crawl space, installation still requires a sealed area, upright and level placement, the manual’s clearance, and a grounded 115-volt circuit. The sheet specifies 6.82 amps and a 15-amp circuit requirement. It weighs 88 pounds and measures 23.8 inches long, 14.7 inches wide and 17.9 inches high, so check the access opening and service clearance rather than relying on the word “compact.”

Controls, filters and what remains uncertain

The page’s box list names MERV-1 and MERV-10 filters. The manual describes local controls, a humidity set point, automatic defrost and an optional wired remote connected over CAT5 cable. A wired control is not Wi-Fi or app control; neither app operation nor ENERGY STAR certification is established by the exact materials reviewed. The specification sheet identifies R32, but the 2023 manual and current marketing copy identify R410A. Because those statements conflict for this exact model, refrigerant remains unknown here; verify the unit’s nameplate and service information before parts or refrigerant work.

Who should choose the HDi100?

Consider it when a documented 100-pint AHAM class, pump drainage and a short 10-inch ducted layout fit the project. It is not a safe questionnaire match for a required 110-pint minimum, an exact pump-rise limit, app control or ENERGY STAR certification. The Sentinel HDi120 is the adjacent step if a 110- or 120-pint AHAM floor matters; the HDi100 and HDi120 share the listed cabinet dimensions but differ in rated capacity, airflow and electrical draw. A smaller HDi90 may be the more proportionate comparison when a 90-pint rating is enough. In every case, size from the actual moisture problem and installation plan, not a square-foot headline alone.
