Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
What standard-condition removal rating is documented for the CTH80B?
The EPA Appendix X1 entry is 24.84 pints/day; the separate 80-pint label is at 95°F/90% RH.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the CTH80B drain continuously to a lower floor outlet?
Yes, Waykar supports gravity drainage with a downward route; the included gravity hose is listed as 3.3 feet.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its automatic air-deflector movement increase the moisture rating?
No. The manual shows the deflector moving up and down; it changes discharge direction, not rated removal.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the CTH80B be controlled through an app?
No connected control is established; the exact EPA record says Connected Capable: No.
Explore this need in the finder →Is operation with the collection tank removed confirmed?
No. The manual documents tank and gravity-drain operation but does not establish bucketless use.
Explore this need in the finder →The Waykar CTH80B is the auto-swing, 80-pint-labeled member of the CTH-B home dehumidifier family. Its headline rate is measured at 95°F and 90% relative humidity; the EPA ENERGY STAR record gives the more comparable Appendix X1 result as 24.84 pints per day. If your selection depends on a standard-condition minimum, compare the latter number rather than treating “80 pints” as an ordinary basement result.
This assessment is limited to the exact CTH80B selector offer on Waykar’s current CTH product page. I compared its SKU and selected variant with the manufacturer’s linked CTH-B manual and the EPA CTH80B record. The shared page also exposes other fixed-vent SKU choices; check the selected code, because those are not this review’s auto-swing configuration.
Read the 80-pint rating in context
Waykar’s manual lists 25 pints per day at 65°F/60% RH, 37 at 80°F/60% RH, 57 at 80°F/80% RH, and 80 only at 95°F/90% RH. The EPA record’s exact Appendix X1 value is 24.84 pints per day, close to the manual’s rounded 25-pint figure. The different test conditions are why the product’s hot, humid headline is much larger than its standardized comparison number. They describe test ratings, not a promise about how quickly a particular basement will dry; room temperature, moisture entering the space, air paths and drainage interruptions all matter.
The exact EPA entry reports a 1.85 L/kWh integrated energy factor, 283 kWh annual energy figure and ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation in the captured record. Those are program figures for comparing certified models, not a household bill prediction. The manual gives a 370-watt rated input and 115-volt, 60-Hz supply. A required rating of at least 25 pints per day under the site’s standard-condition filter would narrowly exclude this model at 24.84, even though the manual rounds its 65°F/60% figure to 25.
Tank collection, gravity drainage and swing airflow
The CTH80B has a 1.2-gallon (4.6-liter) removable tank. The manual shows a water-level window and says the full-tank protection stops the compressor until the tank is emptied and correctly reinserted. If the unit will run for long stretches, a gravity hose can carry water to a lower drain instead. Waykar lists a 3.3-foot gravity-drain hose; the manual calls for a smooth downward route and a drain outlet at least 3.94 inches below the drain port. A twisted, blocked or uphill hose can let water back up, so this is a real installation constraint rather than a bucket-free feature.
The CTH80B is not the pump version. Its manual does not document upward pumping, and it does not establish operation with the tank removed. Choose it only if tank emptying or a workable lower drain suits the room. The CTH150PB is the separate CTH-B selector choice with a built-in pump; do not infer a pump from the shared appearance or capacity family.
All four B-code configurations use the manufacturer’s automatic air-deflector swing feature. The manual shows the deflector moving up and down and lets the user turn automatic swing on or off; it changes the direction of discharged air, not the moisture-removal rating. The same manual describes Dry, Laundry and Sleep modes, three adjustable fan speeds in the ordinary modes, a 30%–80% humidity target in 5-point steps in Dry mode, a timer up to 24 hours, and automatic defrost. Waykar says this size covers up to 5,000 square feet, but that is a manufacturer estimate, not a room-by-room guarantee.
Plan the placement and tradeoffs
The manual specifies a 41°F–90°F operating range, at least 54 square feet of floor area and 18 inches of clearance around the unit. Confirm a suitable outlet and leave space to remove the tank or route the gravity hose; the cabinet’s exact dimensions and net weight are not listed in the reviewed page or manual. The page calls the line “super quiet,” but neither source gives a sound-level measurement, so it is not a defensible pick for a strict decibel limit. EPA lists the model as not connected-capable; a phone app or Wi-Fi control is not established.
Who should shortlist the CTH80B?
Consider it when a roughly 25-pint standard-condition rating is sufficient, you want automatic outlet movement and you can use the tank or a short downhill drain. Its smaller tank is shared with the CTH120B, which has a higher standard rating of 32.46 pints per day but remains non-pump. The CTH150B moves to 49.43 pints per day and a larger 1.9-gallon tank, still without a pump. The CTH150PB has the same capacity tier plus a documented pump and lift limit. Skip the CTH80B if you need a built-in pump, verified app connection, a strict 25-pint standard minimum, or documented bucketless operation. Confirm “CTH80B” at the selector before buying; a same-page fixed-vent option is a different configuration.
