Danby 50-pint dehumidifiers: pump, app and gravity routes

Danby’s 50-pint listings are not one interchangeable cabinet. The exact U.S. category separates the no-pump DDR050BJ2WDB-ME and DDR050BSWDB from the pump-equipped DDR050BJP2WDB and DDR050BSPWDB; the latter pair also differ in app support and pump-hose evidence. The larger DDR060BMP2WDB adds a 60-pint rating but has its own hose limit and a refrigerant-source conflict. Match the outlet and app routine first, then compare capacity and cabinet fit.

Every model still depends on its fitted bucket

The manuals for all five exact configurations require the water bucket to remain installed. “Pump” does not mean bucketless: the tank is an intermediate part of the water path, and the appliance will not run without it. Likewise, a Wi-Fi alert is a remote notice, not an overflow-prevention system. Plan to seat and clean the bucket, keep the float unobstructed, and place the discharge hose where a leak cannot damage the room.

Each model can collect water in its bucket. A lower gravity drain is a separate option, but the hose must descend toward an outlet below the appliance. Danby’s manuals limit the gravity route to six feet. Do not select a gravity model for a sink above the unit, and do not assume that the word “continuous drain” means a pump.

Four 50-pint configurations, four different routines

  • DDR050BJ2WDB-ME: bucket or short lower gravity hose, no pump. The hose and threaded end are not supplied. Its exact page lists ENERGY STAR certification and its manual documents local, temperature-responsive Smart Dehumidify. Phone control is not established.
  • DDR050BJP2WDB: adds a pump to bucket and gravity operation. The supplied pump hose is limited to 15 feet total, and the manual does not give a separate maximum vertical rise. Treat that as a route-length ceiling, not a 15-foot-high sink rating. App control is not established for this suffix.
  • DDR050BSWDB: the app-connected member without a pump. Danby’s exact product page and wireless guide establish Wi-Fi and an app bucket-full indicator; the owner manual still documents only bucket or lower-gravity drainage. Its short body is listed at 9.92 inches wide by 18.90 inches deep and weighs 42.5 pounds.
  • DDR050BSPWDB: combines Wi-Fi, app indication and a pump. Its exact manual states a maximum pump-hose “distance and rise” of 16 feet. Measure the whole arrangement and do not extend the supplied hose beyond the limit. The listing calls out 49 dB, but does not say dBA.

The ME and BJP2 are both listed 16.14 inches wide, 11.81 deep and 24.25 high, though the pump version weighs 42.8 pounds versus 41.7 for the ME. The BSWDB and BSPWDB are low but oriented differently: the BSWDB is 9.92 inches wide and 18.90 deep; the BSPWDB is 18.90 inches wide and 9.92 deep. Both weigh 42.5 pounds. Check the orientation and required air clearance rather than reading the shortest dimension as width.

When the 60-pint option makes sense

DDR060BMP2WDB is labeled 60 pints per day, advertises up to 4,000 square feet, and adds Wi-Fi/app bucket-full indication and a pump. Its cabinet is 18.78 by 14.17 by 24.61 inches and Danby lists a 57.8-pound dry weight. The manual limits the supplied pump hose to 15 feet total but does not state a separate lift height. That is different from the BSPWDB’s 16-foot distance-and-rise wording. If a measured upward rise is essential, only count an exact published vertical limit; otherwise ask Danby about the route before relying on it.

There is also a documentation conflict worth keeping visible: the DDR060 product page and exact-cover manual say R32, while its exact U.S. specification response says R410a. This comparison does not choose a refrigerant value. The refrigerant field therefore stays unresolved for any decision that depends on it.

Smart mode is not an app

Danby describes local Smart Dehumidify on these pages as adjusting to ambient temperature. The ME manual gives the clearest behavior: its target settles around 45–55% relative humidity and cannot be adjusted while that mode is active. That does not turn the no-app ME or BJP2 into connected appliances. Wi-Fi/app evidence is specific to BSWDB, BSPWDB and DDR060BMP2WDB; the app feature changes monitoring and control, not the plumbing limits.

Choose by the non-negotiable constraint

Pick the ME if the local Smart mode and stated ENERGY STAR certification matter more than an uphill drain. Pick BJP2 if a pump is useful and a 15-foot total hose can reach without needing a published vertical-rise number. Pick BSWDB for app visibility with a lower drain, or BSPWDB when both app access and its 16-foot distance-and-rise envelope fit the measured route. The 60-pint DDR060 is the capacity step-up, but its separate lift remains unknown and its refrigerant sources conflict.

All five advertise area coverage that should be treated as a manufacturer claim, not a promise of removal in a damp basement or a room with continuing water entry. None substitutes for fixing a leak. Before buying, compare the exact model name on the page and manual, measure all three cabinet dimensions, include airflow clearance, and trace the hose end to end.

Choose around water, placement and routine.
