AprilAire model and installation choices
AprilAire E070 vs E070W: a ducting decision, not just Wi-Fi
AprilAire’s standard E070 and Wi-Fi E070W share a 70-pint rating class and a low fixed cabinet, but they should not be treated as interchangeable installation versions. The standard model’s exact manual limits it to crawl-space or standalone use and says not to duct it to HVAC; the E070W family manual includes HVAC ducting and app setup.
Choose the airflow path before the suffix
Both exact product pages advertise the models for areas up to 2,200 square feet, and both exact sheets list 70 pints/day at 80°F/60% RH and 53 at 73°F/60% RH. Those manufacturer test figures and area claims do not guarantee performance in a specific home. The decisive distinction for a central-system project is documentation: the E070 installation manual explicitly says not to duct the standard model to HVAC, while the W-family manual includes installation arrangements for the E070W. If you want a dedicated crawl-space or standalone application, the E070 may remain relevant; for HVAC integration, ask an installer to design around the exact E070W instructions rather than interpreting the standard unit’s marketing headline as permission to duct it.
Plan the water route in either case
Neither unit has a collection bucket or built-in pump. Their ordinary documented fit is a continuous downhill gravity drain to a lower outlet. The separately offered Model 4856 pump is an accessory with a stated 22-foot lift; it is not an integral pump supplied by either unit. If the only discharge point is uphill, include external pump equipment and overflow protection in the project scope or choose a product with a documented built-in pump plan.
What the W buys you
The E070W adds manufacturer-documented Bluetooth/Wi-Fi setup and Healthy Air app control. That can help when the cabinet is installed where local checks are inconvenient. It does not resolve duct balancing, drainage, or account and network support. AprilAire’s W-family manual describes HVAC connections and warns about arrangements intended to avoid air short-circuiting; a qualified installer should confirm the return/supply plan, filter access and duct static pressure. The standard E070 page does not advertise the same app capability, and its standard manual’s installation restriction is the more important difference.
Carry the unresolved details into the quote
The current exact EPA active-dehumidifier queries returned no E070 or E070W rows. The E070W’s materials show a Most Efficient 2025 mark, but current exact certification, connected-capable status and EPA integrated energy factor remain unconfirmed; the manufacturer’s 2.1/1.8 L/kWh energy factors are not the EPA IEF. The E070 manual and its newer specification sheet also differ on voltage/current, so confirm the nameplate and electrical requirement with the installer. The shop page’s warranty language gives five years of full replacement plus one year of parts, while model documents state five years; request the exact written warranty.
Both 56-pound cabinets are listed at 12.5 by 12.5 by 25 inches before feet, filter doors or collars. Make space for service and inspect the filter/drain on the model’s schedule. AprilAire routes purchases through Healthy Air Professionals; no direct checkout, stock or price is asserted here. Compare the E070/E070W reviews for the complete model-specific tradeoffs and ask the installer to put the exact suffix, drain route and use case on the proposal.
