Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the E080W let me use an app, unlike the non-W E080?
Yes. The exact E080W page, manual and specification sheet identify Wi-Fi and integration with the AprilAire Healthy Air app, including monitoring and notifications. The non-W E080 is a distinct model and its EPA entry is not an E080W connectivity record. Household network compatibility and long-term cloud availability are not guaranteed by the product sources.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I use the E080W in a fixed gravity-drain, bucketless installation?
Yes, if the site can provide a continuous drain route to a lower outlet. The unit has no collection bucket and its E080W manual requires the drain insert to be installed during operation. Duct layout and gravity fall still need to be designed.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the E080W itself include a lift pump or a verified lift rating?
No. AprilAire lists the Model 4856 as an optional separate external pump with 22-foot lift. The E080W has no built-in pump plan; a built-in-pump requirement must exclude it.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the current EPA ENERGY STAR record verified for the exact E080W?
Not in the current exact-source check. AprilAire marks the model Most Efficient 2025, but an exact E080W query of EPA's captured current active dataset returned no row. Do not transfer E080's current EPA listing or IEF to E080W; verify the exact model if current certification is essential.
Explore this need in the finder →AprilAire’s E080W is a fixed, ductable whole-home dehumidifier with Wi-Fi, not a portable appliance that rolls from room to room. Its 80-pint headline is tied to a stated test condition; installation, drainage and whether the phone feature matters are more useful starting points than the number alone.
This assessment uses the exact E080W U.S. product page, AprilAire’s model-listed installation and owner manual 10021212 (hosted by a distributor), and the manufacturer-authored E080W specification sheet. EPA’s current active dehumidifier listing was also queried for the exact E080W model string.
AprilAire’s E080W page links the cabinet image shown here and labels its gallery asset as a photo, but it does not clarify whether the image is a photograph or a rendering. It depicts a Wi-Fi antenna and a whole-home cabinet; appearance alone does not prove install fit or present-day certification status.
Start with the type of system you are buying
The E080W is intended for whole-home ducting or a dedicated, ducted area such as a basement, crawl space or sealed attic. The manufacturer sheet shows several layouts: return-to-return, return-to-supply, a dedicated return to a supply or return, and dedicated grilles for a space without existing ductwork. AprilAire recommends return-to-return for one common whole-home arrangement. Those choices need an installer to consider the home’s ductwork and static pressure; they are not equivalent to placing a portable unit in an open room. A living-space duct kit is listed as a recommended accessory for one dedicated-grille application, not as a built-in feature.
Keep the ratings and certification claim in their lanes
The specification sheet identifies the E080W at 80 pints per day at 80°F/60% RH and lists 65 pints at 73°F/60% RH. It also lists energy factors of 2.8 and 2.35 L/kWh at those respective conditions, airflow of 185/135/85 CFM at 0.0/0.2/0.4 inches water-column external static pressure, and a 45 dBA ducted sound figure. The sheet’s footnote ties its rated figures to 80°F/60% RH and zero static pressure, so these are manufacturer test figures—not a forecast for a colder basement or a particular duct system. The 2.35 value is not an EPA integrated energy factor simply because the number resembles a separate model’s listing.
There is an important exact-model qualification caveat. AprilAire’s product artwork and the E070W/E080W/E100W/E130W manual carry a “Most Efficient 2025” mark. An exact-string search of the EPA’s current active dehumidifier dataset returned no E080W row in the saved check. That does not establish that the model never had a 2025 designation, but it leaves a current exact-model certification record unconfirmed here. Do not transfer the EPA values from the separate E080 model: E080 and E080W are distinct product identities. If an active ENERGY STAR listing is essential to your purchase, verify the E080W record directly before treating it as a match.
Wi-Fi is the suffix difference; the drain still needs a plan
The exact product page calls this a Wi-Fi model, and its manual explains Bluetooth pairing followed by connecting the unit to a home Wi-Fi network and the AprilAire Healthy Air app. The specification sheet describes app integration for monitoring, alerts, diagnostics and updates. This makes the W version the relevant choice if remote app control is a requirement; the non-W E080’s onboard control does not establish the same feature. The sources do not settle router-band requirements, cloud-service longevity, app-version compatibility or whether a particular household network will work, so ask before installation if those are deal-breakers.
Water leaves through a drain connection, not a collection bucket. The ordinary installation plan is a continuously falling gravity drain to a suitable lower outlet. The model-specific manual also documents an E080W drain insert that must be in place during operation; its drain-cleaning instructions explain how to service the pan and insert. The specification sheet lists AprilAire Model 4856 as an optional condensate pump with a stated 22-foot lift. That is a separate accessory, not an integral pump or an included E080W route, and should not be mistaken for the unit’s own pump capability. If the site needs uphill water removal, establish the exact accessory, switch wiring, discharge route and lift with the installer rather than assuming the cabinet can pump.
Allow room for the cabinet, filter and service
AprilAire lists a 14-inch-wide, 15-inch-high and 26-inch-long cabinet, 63 pounds, 120 volts and 4.8 amps. Those dimensions exclude the duct collars and filter doors, and the listed height excludes adjustable feet; preserve additional clearance for duct transitions and filter access. The sheet lists 10-inch collars, a backdraft damper and a washable MERV 8 filter. It gives a dehumidification inlet range of 50–104°F with a 40°F minimum dew point. A space outside those stated conditions is not made suitable by the 80-pint label. The manual recommends qualified installation and directs routine filter and drain attention; its filter-life reminder is a prompt to check the service item, not a substitute for access planning.
Who should choose it?
The E080W can suit a homeowner coordinating a fixed whole-home or dedicated below-grade system, with a real gravity drain and an existing or professionally designed air path. Wi-Fi and app monitoring distinguish it from the E080; a bucket, built-in lift pump and a verified current ENERGY STAR record do not. A portable pump model such as Midea’s Cube serves a different placement and drainage problem, while AprilAire’s E100 and E130 are separate capacity options to assess against the actual installation. Choose by air path, measured conditions, drainage and service access first. Confirm which exact model is being quoted, what is included, the applicable test basis and the final install plan before purchase.
