A useful fit for

For a 50-pint-class room where app access and a documented pump route both matter, and where the measured hose distance and rise each stay within the exact 16-foot manual limit.

The main tradeoff

The pump is not bucketless; the bucket remains part of the water path. Its distinctive 16-foot restriction covers distance and rise, so this is not a configuration to extend casually. The low-profile body is broad across its listed 18.90-inch width.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does your pump route need app control and no more than 16 feet of rise?

The exact page/manual establish Wi-Fi/app and a pump hose with a stated maximum distance and rise of 16 feet; the bucket still must be installed.

Is the full pump hose run within the manufacturer’s stated 16-foot ceiling?

The exact manual caps the pump hose distance and rise at 16 feet; do not add another hose beyond the specified route.

Can it run with the bucket removed?

No. The model-specific manual says the dehumidifier does not function without its bucket, including its pump route.

DDR050BSPWDB combines a 50-pint rating, Wi-Fi, Smart Dehumidify and a vertical pump in Danby’s compact, low-profile white cabinet. The reason to choose it over the almost-twin DDR050BSWDB is the pump route; the Wi-Fi and 49-dB listing are common to both. Its own manual gives a 16-foot maximum distance and rise for the pump hose, while the BSWDB manual has no pump procedure at all.

Measure the outlet route before buying

The exact-model manual gives three water options: a fitted bucket, a straight downhill gravity hose, or the supplied pump hose. Gravity is limited to six feet and requires a separate standard garden hose and female threaded end; the hose must descend toward an outlet below the unit. The pump is designed for the different case where the destination is above or not reachable by that gravity path. Danby states the pump hose’s maximum distance and rise as 16 feet (5 metres). It warns that exceeding that limit can damage the appliance or cause leaks.

That statement is unusually useful but still needs a tape measure: check both the route length and the vertical rise, and avoid assuming that a longer aftermarket hose will extend the capability. The manual says to insert the supplied hose securely, restore the drain plug when returning to bucket mode, and deactivate the pump before removing a hose because water can exit even when the hose is detached. The pump does not make the appliance bucketless. Danby’s exact manual explicitly says the unit will not function without the fitted tank, and the pump route sends collected water from that reservoir through its outlet.

The pump filter is another routine item. The manufacturer says to clean it every two weeks under normal use. Its manual also advises checking ports before automatic drainage and periodically emptying the bucket during pump use so water does not remain stagnant. This is not a “connect it once and forget every part” setup; the route must be installed and maintained as specified.

Same compact body, two distinct 50-pint routes

The U.S. product sheet lists 50 pints per day, a 3,000-square-foot area claim, two manual fan speeds, Smart Dehumidify, Wi-Fi with an app bucket-full indicator, washable filter, automatic restart and de-icing, a 24-hour timer, and operation down to 5°C. It gives dimensions of 18.90 inches wide, 9.92 deep and 19.09 high, with a 42.5-pound dry weight. The short height can help under shelving, but the 18.90-inch width still needs space. Leave the manufacturer’s airflow clearance in addition to the cabinet footprint.

For the app-enabled no-pump BSWDB, the same 50-pint rating and nearly identical cabinet dimensions remain, but water leaves only by bucket or downhill gravity. The BSPWDB is the choice when both remote monitoring and a raised discharge are essential. If you only need the pump and not Wi-Fi, compare the larger full-height BJP2WDB: its manual states a 15-foot maximum hose length but does not provide a separate vertical-rise figure. Do not mix those limits just because the products share a brand and pint class.

Capacity, controls and realistic expectations

The 50-pint label and 3,000-square-foot claim offer a category comparison, not a guarantee that this will maintain a chosen humidity everywhere in that area. A room’s outdoor-air leakage, temperature, infiltration and water source change the workload. Smart Dehumidify adjusts its target with room temperature and is not adjustable while active; use ordinary set-point mode if you want to choose the target yourself. The app and Smart mode address different questions: one is remote access, the other local control behavior.

The exact page lists 49 dB but does not specify dBA weighting; avoid comparing it numerically with differently labeled noise measurements. Wi-Fi adds a setup step; the shared connection guide names DDR050BSPWDB and describes a 2.4-GHz band. It also depends on a compatible home network and app. A bucket-full notification can help with a manual bucket routine, but the full-bucket stop remains the appliance’s protection, not a remote sensor that manages a leak.

Choose the BSPWDB when the outlet plan genuinely calls for a pump, its 16-foot manual limit fits the measured route and you want app monitoring. Choose the BSWDB for the shorter gravity setup, the BJP2WDB if pump matters but Wi-Fi does not, and the DDR050BJ2WDB-ME if you want the ENERGY STAR claim and a no-pump setup. If your route exceeds 16 feet, if you require bucketless use, or if a 50-pint rating is not enough, this exact model is not a documented fit.

Controls and settingsThe exact-page Wi-Fi listing and model-named wireless guide establish app connectivity; the product page describes an app bucket-full indicator. Local Smart Dehumidify is a separate temperature-responsive feature. The 49-dB noise figure is not labeled dBA and should not be compared as though it were A-weighted.
Water-removal setupThe exact manual offers bucket, downhill gravity and pump routes; all require the bucket installed. Gravity hose is limited to 6 ft. The pump hose maximum distance and rise are 16 ft (5 m), a shared route boundary rather than a reason to assume unlimited extension. The manual recommends periodic pump-filter cleaning and warns to deactivate pump before disconnecting its hose.
Care and operating limitsDanby lists operation down to 5°C; the exact manual recommends a 5–32°C ambient range and a 250-hour washable-filter reminder. The pump filter has its own roughly two-week cleaning instruction. Keep the water tank seated and check the installed discharge route for safe drainage.
Exact model detailDanby’s exact U.S. page identifies DDR050BSPWDB at 50 pints/day and advertises up to 3,000 sq. ft. The area figure is a manufacturer claim, not a performance guarantee. Published cabinet dimensions are 18.9 × 9.92 × 19.09 in; published dry weight is 42.5 lb. No room-specific extraction or live inventory claim is made.
