Frigidaire FAD504DUD 50-Pint Dehumidifier review

A discontinued U.S. 50-pint/day Frigidaire dehumidifier with a front bucket and documented lower-gravity drain. The exact 01/13 manufacturer sheet names FAD504DUD; the exact support page links a generic June 2009 owner guide.

A useful fit for

For identifying or caring for an existing FAD504DUD when a fitted bucket or lower gravity drain is workable. The support page marks it discontinued; do not treat it as a current buying option.

The main tradeoff

The exact sheet documents 50 pints/day and a 16.3-pint bucket, but no powered pump plan, pump height, bucketless setup, dry weight, Wi-Fi feature or unambiguous ENERGY STAR status. Shipping weight is approximate and is not dry weight.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the exact model specification identify FAD504DUD as a 50-pint/day dehumidifier?

Yes. The Frigidaire-authored 01/13 sheet names FAD504DUD and rates it at 50 pints/day; the rating is not a guarantee of room output, and its discontinued status keeps it out of buying results.

Does the linked guide document a lower gravity hose route?

Yes. It describes a garden hose to a nearby drain and warns against kinks or elevations. It does not describe pump lift or bucketless operation.

Can the approximately 41-pound shipping weight meet an essential dry-weight cap?

No conclusion: the spec labels 41 pounds as approximate shipping weight, not dry appliance weight. A strict handling limit must remain unresolved for this model.

Is ENERGY STAR certification confirmed for the exact DUD?

No. Its sheet shows the ENERGY STAR heading without a value. Unknown certification cannot satisfy an essential ENERGY STAR need.

FAD504DUD is an exact older 50-pint model, not a suffix of the later DWD

Frigidaire’s support page identifies the FAD504DUD as a 50-pint-capacity dehumidifier and marks it discontinued. A Frigidaire-authored specification sheet dated 01/13 names this exact model and rates it at 50 pints per day (24 liters per day). The linked June 2009 Use & Care guide has a generic dehumidifier cover rather than this model number, so I use it for operating procedures only where the exact DUD support page links it. This is an identification and existing-appliance assessment, not a current-buy recommendation or a promise that replacement parts are still available.

Do not collapse the DUD into FAD504DWD or FAD504DWDE just because all three are 50-pint labels. The DUD sheet describes a taller cabinet, two fan speeds, 615 watts, R134a and an EEV of 1.6 L/kWh. The later DWD/DWDE sheet documents different dimensions, R410A, 490 watts and EEV 1.85. Those are separate dated product records, not a field test, and they do not establish that an old DUD has been upgraded or repaired to a later specification.

Its documented water plan is bucket or a lower gravity drain

The front pull-out bucket holds 16.3 pints, a little over two gallons. Frigidaire’s sheet lists a full-bucket indicator and automatic shutoff; the linked guide says the unit stops at the full point and resumes after the emptied bucket is seated correctly. That makes the bucket plan understandable, but the container is still much smaller than a day’s published 50-pint rating. In a damp room, check it as conditions require rather than assuming a particular number of days between emptying. The collected water is not potable.

The guide also describes continuous drainage with a garden hose to a nearby drain. It cautions against kinks and elevations; plan a downhill path and confirm hose fit and sealing before leaving the appliance unattended. It documents no powered lift procedure, maximum pump rise, or bucketless arrangement. That distinction matters more than the 50-pint rating: if your drain is above the machine, a high window is the only outlet, or the bucket must remain out, this record does not establish a suitable setup. A pump-required answer should point you toward a separately documented model such as the Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1, not assume the DUD can do it.

Room fit, controls and the difference between two weight numbers

The exact sheet gives dimensions of 24¾ inches high, 16⅛ inches wide and 11 5/16 inches deep. It is a relatively tall, narrow cabinet profile; reserve the manual’s minimum 12 inches of clearance around the unit and keep its front intake and side discharge clear. The approximate 41-pound figure on the specification sheet is labeled shipping weight, not dry appliance weight. There is no verified empty-unit weight here, so someone with an essential lifting limit should treat that field as unknown rather than count 41 pounds as a pass.

Frigidaire lists two fan speeds, high/low airflow of 194/165 CFM, a digital humidity readout, bottom slide-out washable antibacterial mesh, a filter-check indicator, 115 volts, 6.0 amps and 615 watts. The guide sets humidity from 35% to 85% in five-point increments and describes a delay start/stop timer: half-hour steps through ten hours, then hourly steps through 24. It recommends washing the filter every two weeks under normal use; the sheet says the reminder appears after 250 hours. The manual gives a 41–96°F operating range, a level floor, and one upright hour before starting. These old controls are direct and legible, but the documentation does not establish app control or a current connectivity feature.

Certification and efficiency need careful reading

The specification sheet has an ENERGY STAR heading with no value shown beside it. That is not evidence of certification or non-certification, so this review leaves the status unknown. If ENERGY STAR is essential, this DUD cannot meet that requirement on the evidence available; the current FHDD5033Y1 is a separately documented 50-pint alternative that is certified and also lists Wi-Fi, but it has a smaller 1.9-gallon bucket and a different feature set. The DUD sheet’s EEV value is a manufacturer-published metric, not a measured household bill or a direct promise of savings. Avoid comparing it as though it were a modern IEF rating.

The main questionnaire tradeoff is therefore practical: a 50-pint minimum plus a bucket or lower-gravity route describes what the DUD documentation supports, but it remains reference-only because Frigidaire has discontinued it. Current 50-pint gravity-only options can be considered for a lower drain; a pump-lift requirement narrows results to models with an exact pump plan and published lift. A maximum dry-weight choice cannot confirm the DUD because the sheet provides shipping weight only. Unknown values do not make a legacy appliance an acceptable substitute for a hard constraint.

Who should consult this review

This model suits someone who already has an FAD504DUD, is verifying a label before looking for instructions, or needs to understand its stated capacity, front bucket, controls and gravity-drain procedure. It is not the right basis for choosing a current dehumidifier, an upstairs drain route, bucketless use, app monitoring, an essential ENERGY STAR filter, or a measured dry-weight limit. For a new purchase decision, compare exact current manuals and fit the water route before choosing capacity. For room moisture, a dehumidifier is not a repair for a leak or standing water, and no filter claim here is a medical or mold-remediation promise.
