A useful fit for

For an existing FFAD3533W1 owner who needs the exact published rating, maintenance routine or gravity-only drainage information; not for a new-purchase shortlist.

The main tradeoff

The 2.11-gallon tank is relatively generous for this rating class, but the model is discontinued and offers no pump, app control or advanced-filter option. A downhill drain is the only documented continuous route; bucketless running remains unestablished.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the exact discontinued FFAD3533W1 meet a 35-pint/day rating threshold for identifying an existing unit?

Yes. Its model-specific February 2023 Frigidaire sheet gives 35.23 pints per day; actual extraction in a room still depends on conditions, and the model remains reference-only because its exact page says discontinued.

Can an existing FFAD3533W1 use a continuous gravity hose to a lower drain?

Yes. The linked Use & Care guide documents a garden hose to a nearby lower drain without kinks or elevated sections. The exact sheet says the model has no pump, so this is not an upward-lift setup.

Will the FFAD3533W1 fit a strict 38-pound dry-weight limit?

No. Frigidaire's exact U.S. support page lists the unit at 39 pounds before water in its 2.11-gallon bucket is added.

The discontinued Frigidaire FFAD3533W1 is a 35-pint-class dehumidifier worth understanding if you already own one or are identifying an old listing. Its published 35.23-pint daily rating, 2.11-gallon bucket and three fan speeds make it a distinct reference from the smaller FFAD-R1 models. It has no built-in pump, Wi-Fi or advanced-filter option, and its exact U.S. support page marks it discontinued. This is an ownership and identification review, not a current buying recommendation.

Read the capacity as a rating, not a room promise

Frigidaire publishes 35.23 pints per day for this exact U.S. model. That is the stated rating, not a daily forecast for a particular basement: room temperature, humidity, air exchange, setpoint and run time affect extraction. Use it to identify the model and compare published ratings, not promise a room-specific result.

The same sheet lists an integrated energy factor of 1.8 L/kWh and ENERGY STAR certification. Those are documented product specifications; they are not a household energy-bill estimate. The unit is a compressor dehumidifier with a washable dust filter, not an air purifier. Frigidaire says there is no advanced-filtration option or ionizer on this configuration, so it is a poor fit if an add-on filter or air-quality readout is an essential requirement.

The 2.11-gallon bucket is useful only if you can manage it

The tank holds a published 2.11 gallons, or 16.9 pints, and the unit stops when the bucket-full condition is reached. That reservoir is larger than some current 35-pint Frigidaire models, which may mean fewer interruptions when the bucket is collecting water. But fill frequency depends on conditions, not just tank size, and a full bucket is heavy. The exact support page lists a dry product weight of 39 pounds; factor the filled tank and the route for lifting it into your handling plan.

The manual also documents a continuous drain connection. It calls for a garden hose leading to a nearby drain, recommends a hose at least one-half inch in diameter and cautions against kinks or elevated sections. Treat this as a gravity route to a lower outlet. The product sheet explicitly lists no pump, so a raised sink, window or drain is not a supported pump-lift use case. The manual does not establish running the appliance bucketless; do not infer that just because a hose connection is present. If you have no lower drain and do not want to empty the tank, compare a model whose exact manual documents the upward route you need.

Controls are straightforward, but they are not connected

The electronic controls offer a digital humidity display, a 35–85% set range, three fan speeds and a delayed start/stop timer up to 24 hours. The manual specifies five-point humidity steps. Its filter-reset light appears after 250 operating hours; the washable rear filter should be cleaned every two weeks under normal use. The routine is simple but still needs an owner's attention.

There is no Wi-Fi or app control. If remote monitoring is essential, the newer-reference FHDD3534Y1 is a different 35-pint Frigidaire configuration with connected control and optional, separately sold PureAir compatibility. Its smaller listed bucket and different dimensions are not the FFAD3533W1's. The Gallery GHDD3535W1 is another distinct 35-pint reference with included filter media and an air-quality indicator; it has separate cleaning needs and its U.S. sheet does not list ENERGY STAR certification. None of those differences should be guessed from a shared brand name.

Measure the cabinet and its operating envelope

The FFAD3533W1 is 24¾ inches tall, 16 inches wide and 12¼ inches deep. The official manual gives a 41–89°F operating range, calls for a level floor and at least 12 inches of clearance, and says an enclosed room is more effective than a space continually exchanging air with outdoors. It also cautions against operating it in a small closet because the appliance releases heat. These placement details can matter as much as the headline pint rating when fitting an older unit into a tight utility area.

Frigidaire lists three speed-specific noise figures—45, 48 and 51 dBA—and airflow of 167, 194 and 229 CFM across the low, medium and high settings. It lists 115 volts, 5.3 amps and 380 watts. These are manufacturer figures, not independent sound, airflow or energy measurements. A lower speed may suit a quieter routine, while the manufacturer describes higher fan speed as moving moisture more quickly; the best setting still depends on the space and its drainage arrangement.

Who should use this review?

Use this review if the nameplate says FFAD3533W1 and you need its rating, water path, filter routine or weight. Existing owners can check the gravity and 39-pound limits; choosing an upward route, app control, advanced filtration or a higher rating points to different configurations. Discontinued status keeps this model out of buying recommendations even when its capacity and downhill drain look suitable.

For a purchase, compare the distinct FHDD35 models by Wi-Fi, tank size, certification and filter setup. A raised outlet calls for a documented pump model such as FHDP5033Y1 and a route within its manual-stated limit. A pint rating alone cannot establish room performance; measure the opening and drain heights and verify the exact model suffix.
