Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the 22-pint rating and a lower gravity-hose route meet my needs?
Yes. The exact sheet lists 22 pints/day and no pump; its exact-cover manual documents bucket collection or a continuous hose to a lower drain.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require app controls and compatibility with the optional filter?
Yes. Frigidaire lists Wi-Fi/app control and separately sold PureAir compatibility. The filter is not included with the appliance.
Explore this need in the finder →Does a 33-pound dry-weight cap with ENERGY STAR certification fit?
Yes. Frigidaire lists 33 pounds dry and the exact ENERGY STAR record confirms certification.
Explore this need in the finder →Frigidaire’s FHDD2234W1 keeps the same 22-pint/day rating as the basic FHDD2233Y1 but changes the ownership package: it adds Wi-Fi, a third fan speed, compatibility with a separately sold PureAir filter and a 1.7-gallon bucket. It still has no lift pump. It makes sense when app control or a larger collection tank is worth the larger, heavier cabinet—but not when the drain has to rise.
This assessment uses the exact U.S. product listing, the model-cover FHDD2234W1 / FHDD3534W1 owner’s guide, the FHDD2234W1 specification sheet, and its ENERGY STAR record.
The product image is linked from Frigidaire’s exact FHDD2234W1 support gallery. This white side-view composition shows the side grille, front bucket seam and top controls. The image does not reveal pump hardware or filter compatibility; Frigidaire does not label it as a photograph or rendering.
A bigger bucket, not a higher capacity class
FHDD2234W1 is still a 22-pint/day model. Its certification record reports 22.57 pints/day under the program’s test, but Frigidaire presents the product as a 22-pint unit. Neither number promises a fixed daily collection rate in a particular house. Room temperature, moisture entering the space, target humidity and run time matter. ENERGY STAR lists an integrated energy factor of 1.7 L/kWh for this model. That is a standardized certification figure, not a projection of an individual utility bill.
Its 1.7-gallon bucket is twice the listed 0.85-gallon capacity of FHDD2233Y1. That can reduce how often someone empties the tank in the same conditions, but it does not mean half the effort in every room: the two models share the same nominal capacity, while the actual water load depends on the environment. Both stop when the fitted bucket is full. The FHDD2234W1 weighs 33 pounds dry and measures 19.8 inches high by 14.7 wide by 11.1 deep, compared with 30.86 pounds and a 17 × 16 × 8.9-inch body for FHDD2233Y1.
That change in shape affects placement. FHDD2234W1 discharges air from the side and its manual requires at least 12 inches of clearance around the unit; avoid blocking the side grille. The rear dust filter needs periodic access. The dimensions are published product measurements, not installation allowances—leave room for the power cord, hose bend and the route needed to remove the bucket.
App access, a third speed and an optional filter
The exact Frigidaire page and spec sheet list Wi-Fi and operation through the Frigidaire app, including remote on/off, humidity changes, schedules and fan-speed adjustment. The product page also names Alexa and Google Home voice control. These features are useful if you want to check or alter settings without walking to the unit; they do not improve the room’s physical water-removal capacity. One careful caveat: the ENERGY STAR record’s separate “Connected Capable” field is marked No even though Frigidaire lists Wi-Fi on this SKU. This review treats app access as a manufacturer-listed product feature, not as a claim that ENERGY STAR recognized a connected function.
The three-speed sheet lists manufacturer sound figures of 43, 46 and 49 dBA at low, medium and high. The simpler 2233 sheet lists two speeds at 47.5 and 49 dBA. Those are published test/spec figures rather than our independent sound measurements; a room’s surfaces and distance from the appliance change what people hear. FHDD2234W1 also accepts the separately sold PureAir filter. Compatibility is not inclusion: the box does not become a filter package simply because Frigidaire offers the accessory. Its washable dust filter remains the ordinary maintenance item. The exact U.S. spec does not describe a built-in advanced filter as included.
Drainage: bucket or a lower outlet
The spec sheet says Pump Feature: No. The fitted bucket is one operating plan. For continuous drainage, the model-specific manual describes connecting a garden hose to the rear drain connector and aiming it toward a nearby drain. The hose must not kink or have an elevated section; Frigidaire recommends 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) or larger. This setup relies on gravity, so measure the outlet height before choosing it. The manual does not document bucketless operation; leave the tank fitted in the hose arrangement.
A hose cannot lift water to a sink above the dehumidifier, and Wi-Fi cannot change that. If your only drain is higher, choose a model whose exact manual specifies a pump and a vertical limit—Frigidaire’s FHDP series is a different configuration. If the outlet is lower, gravity drainage can avoid emptying either bucket; if it is not, plan for routine bucket checks. The manual gives a two-week cleaning interval for the dust filter and bucket under normal use, plus an operating environment of 41–89°F and 30–80% RH.
Who should pay attention to FHDD2234W1?
This configuration suits someone who wants app controls, a larger bucket, a third fan-speed choice or the option to add PureAir media later, while staying in Frigidaire’s 22-pint/day class. Both 22-pint FHDD models are ENERGY STAR certified and have the same 1.7 L/kWh IEF listing, so the choice is not a higher-capacity or certified-versus-uncertified decision. It is a decision about tank size, controls, cabinet fit, noise specifications and filter compatibility.
Choose FHDD2233Y1 if you prefer the smaller, lighter cabinet and simpler offline controls, do not need PureAir compatibility and can manage a 0.85-gallon tank. Step up to the 35-pint FHDD3534Y1 only if its capacity class and larger installation footprint fit your moisture need; it is also Wi-Fi enabled and has optional filtration, but still has no pump. A water route that needs lifting calls for a different design altogether. Treat advertised room coverage as a starting claim, verify the full suffix, and pick the water route before prioritizing app or filter extras.
