A useful fit for

For a household with a documented 50-pint/day rating need, a bucket or lower gravity-drain arrangement, and a preference for Wi-Fi plus ENERGY STAR certification without the optional advanced-filter feature.

The main tradeoff

The 1.9-gallon bucket is smaller than the two taller family models; it has only two fan speeds, no pump and no PureAir advanced-filter slot. The 50-pint rating is not a room-specific extraction guarantee, and the manual does not document bucketless operation.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the 50-pint model fit when the outlet is lower than the unit?

Yes. The exact sheet lists 50 pints/day and the exact manual describes a hose to a lower drain. This rating is not guaranteed daily output.

Can this model pump condensate up to a higher sink?

No. The model-specific specification says Pump Feature: No; continuous drainage is a gravity route to a lower drain.

Will it remain an option if a washable dust filter is enough and no advanced filter is essential?

Yes. With no advanced-filter need selected it remains eligible. If a compatible PureAir filter is essential, it does not qualify: the exact specification says there is no advanced-filter option.

The Frigidaire FHDD5033Y1 is the plainest of three current 50-pint Frigidaire family choices: it has Wi-Fi and ENERGY STAR certification, but only the washable dust filter, not the optional PureAir advanced-filter fitting or the Gallery air-quality sensor. It collects in a 1.9-gallon bucket or drains by gravity to a lower outlet; it has no built-in pump.

Exact identity and specifications were checked against Frigidaire’s FHDD5033Y1 U.S. product page, the model-cover-matched owner manual, and the FHDD5033Y1 specification sheet. The direct HTML archive fetch timed out; product details were individually checked in the manufacturer page. No customer rating, price, performance test or ownership claim is used.

The exact FHDD5033Y1 page links the white top-discharge image shown here. It looks like a studio rendering, but Frigidaire does not identify it as a photograph or a rendering. Its exterior cannot establish internal features such as pump hardware.

Choose it for the simpler filter arrangement

Frigidaire lists the FHDD5033Y1 as a 50-pint/day unit with two fan speeds, Wi-Fi control through its app, a washable rear dust filter, a 24-hour timer and ENERGY STAR certification. The specification sheet explicitly says the model has no advanced-filter option and no pump. That distinction matters more than its shared “50 pint” headline: this is not the 50-pint FHDD5034Y1 with a PureAir filter slot, and it is not the Gallery GHDD5035W1 with a filter included and an air-quality sensor. If you only want a washable dust screen and do not need those upgraded features, there is less filter-specific equipment to choose, fit and replace.

The app can turn the dehumidifier on or off, change humidity and fan settings and schedule operation, according to Frigidaire. The controls do not alter the water route. If your drain is uphill, this model will not send water there: Frigidaire’s specification sheet says “Pump Feature: No.” For an upper-level sink or window drain, choose a model with a pump and a manual that supports your measured lift instead.

Plan for the shorter, wider cabinet and smaller bucket

The specification sheet lists a 1.9-gallon bucket, 19.1 inches high, 18.9 inches wide and 9.9 inches deep; the product page lists a 41.45-pound dry weight. Compared with the FHDD5034Y1 and Gallery GHDD5035W1, the FHDD5033Y1 is shorter and wider, with a smaller bucket. That may suit a low shelf-clearance area better, but it does not mean the appliance has a dramatically smaller footprint: measure the 18.9-inch width, 9.9-inch depth and airflow space behind and above the cabinet. A full bucket adds water weight, and it must be removed for emptying.

The 50-pint figure is a manufacturer rating, not an expected quantity in every basement. Frigidaire’s manual sets an operating envelope of 41–89°F and 30–80% relative humidity, and warns that performance falls outside those conditions. It also says to keep the unit in an enclosed area, maintain unobstructed intake and outlet airflow, place it on a level supporting floor and allow clearance. A damp adjacent closet may not dry simply because the main room is being treated; air must circulate between spaces.

Bucket or downhill hose—not bucketless operation

For bucket use, the manual explains that the unit needs the tank fitted correctly and automatically stops when the tank is full. That is a practical overflow guard, not an unattended-water solution: a full tank still needs emptying. For continuous drainage, the manual directs the owner to remove the drain plug, connect a garden hose and route it to a nearby drain with no kinks or raised sections. It recommends a 1/2-inch-or-larger dehumidifier drain hose and says to check the seal for leaks. The manual does not document a bucketless operating mode, so this assessment treats it only as bucket collection or ordinary gravity drainage with the tank requirement unresolved—not as a unit that can run with the bucket removed.

The rear washable filter is due for cleaning every two weeks under normal conditions. Rinse it with clean water, let it dry, and reinstall it before operating. Frigidaire also calls for cleaning the bucket on a two-week interval under normal conditions. That simple routine is less involved than the models with a non-washable PureAir filter, but it still requires access to the back grille and enough room to pull out the bucket.

Which Frigidaire 50-pint option fits?

Choose FHDD5033Y1 when the 50-pint rating, Wi-Fi and ENERGY STAR certification matter but you want the shorter body and no advanced-filter accessory. Move to FHDD5034Y1 if you want a three-speed fan, the larger 2.7-gallon bucket and the option of buying a PureAir filter separately; its ENERGY STAR status and Wi-Fi remain. Choose the Gallery GHDD5035W1 when the included advanced filter and built-in air-quality monitoring are worth a taller cabinet and its lack of ENERGY STAR certification. None adds a pump.

If a pump is essential, the reviewed Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1 is a distinct 50-pint model with pump hardware, Wi-Fi and a manual-stated 5-metre distance-and-rise limit; it has its own bucket-triggered pump routine. If a bucketless gravity setup is essential, compare the separately documented Midea Cube MAD50S1QWT. These are not suffix-level substitutes: check the model exactly, then make sure its actual plan matches your drain, space and filter routine.
