Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does your nameplate identify the discontinued GE ADEL70LR?
GE identifies ADEL70LR as a discontinued 70-pint/day model. Confirm every suffix and the date code on the physical unit; the CPSC notice uses the engineering-suffix model ADEL70LRL1.
Explore this need in the finder →Does your existing installation use a bucket or a lower gravity drain?
GE documents a fitted 17.5-pint bucket or a separate garden hose routed downhill. The hose is not included and the bucket remains required and seated.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the machine a safe new or used purchase without a recall check?
No. This discontinued model is suppressed from buying results because the exact support window overlaps a CPSC recall period for ADEL70LRL1. Compare the complete appliance label and date code with CPSC before operation.
Explore this need in the finder →Must the unit pump water above its drain connector?
No pump route is documented. GE manuals show bucket collection or an unsupplied garden hose to a lower drain, with the bucket seated.
Explore this need in the finder →The GE ADEL70LR is a discontinued, 70-pint-per-day portable dehumidifier, but this is an owner-identification reference—not a new-buy recommendation. A later CPSC notice names the engineering-suffix model ADEL70LRL1 in a fire-hazard recall. Check the full nameplate model and date code before operating any unit that may match; do not use a confirmed recalled appliance.
GE’s exact ADEL70LR product page lists its 70-pint/day rating, bucket and technical specifications, while the matching GE support record dates manufacture from January 2013 through December 2016. The GE-linked 49-7707-2 owner manual identifies the ADEL70 family. The CPSC 2023 Gree recall lists ADEL70LRL1 among models made January 2011–February 2014 and advises consumers to stop use, unplug and contact Gree for a refund.
Start with the safety check
GE’s consumer product and support pages show ADEL70LR without the engineering suffix used on the CPSC recall table. The official recall list does name ADEL70LRL1, a 70-pint model, and says the affected dehumidifiers were manufactured from January 2011 through February 2014. GE’s ADEL70LR support dates begin in January 2013, so that production window overlaps the model’s manufacturing history. The model family is therefore excluded from buying matches here. If you own one, read every letter and number on the appliance nameplate, compare any suffix and date information with the official CPSC notice, and follow the notice if it matches. Do not infer that a shorter retailer or product-page code proves a particular unit is outside the recall.
GE also says ADEL70LR is no longer manufactured. A clearance label, old retailer page or secondhand listing does not establish that a unit is safe, working, supported or suitable to buy. The rest of this assessment helps identify an existing appliance and understand its documented setup; it should not be used to bypass the recall check.
What the ADEL70LR specification describes
GE’s exact technical table lists 70 pints per day, a 17.5-pint removable front bucket, three fan selections and an electronic soft-touch panel. The listed refrigerant is R-410A. GE lists a maximum sound level of 59 dBA, a 45-pound net weight, 23 5/8 inches of height, 15 3/8 inches of width and 11 inches of depth. Its 115-volt rating and 7.5-amp/745-watt figures describe the appliance’s electrical specification, not a promise about a household’s energy bill. The old 70-pint label is a published historical rating, not a forecast that this unit will collect that much in an ordinary room every day.
GE’s page says the model is ENERGY STAR qualified and lists automatic defrost, an automatic full-bucket shutoff, casters and a washable filter. The owner manual documents humidity settings from 35% to 80% in five-point steps or continuous operation, a restart delay after an outage, operation above 41°F, and a filter reminder after 250 hours. The GE manual and product specification describe no built-in lift pump, Wi-Fi or bucketless mode; those capabilities should not be inferred from a similar-looking appliance.
Choose the documented water route
The bucket route is simple but involves carrying and emptying the fitted tank. GE’s manual says the bucket must be securely seated for the appliance to run; the unit stops when the tank is full, missing or out of position. For continuous removal, the manual describes attaching a separate garden hose, leading it to a lower floor drain and reinstalling the bucket. The hose is not supplied and must run downhill. This is gravity drainage, not a pump lift and not bucketless operation. Confirm that the drain is lower than the connection and that the hose can be routed without a rise or kink.
That distinction matters more than the headline capacity if the unit is in a basement with no convenient lower drain. A hose connection does not make this a hands-off upward discharge model. Conversely, if the appliance is already installed beside a lower floor drain, its documented gravity route may explain the setup without assuming a pump. For any uncertain model label, use the manual for the complete nameplate code rather than borrowing instructions from another GE 70-pint family.
Who this page is for
This assessment is useful to a current owner checking an ADEL70LR identity, to someone comparing a manual against an existing installation, or to a household investigating whether a unit may fall within the CPSC notice. It is not a recommendation to purchase a used or clearance ADEL70LR. A newer GE such as the ADSE50XWT has a different capacity class, control and pump configuration; its numbers are not a like-for-like replacement for this old rating. Match the model you actually have, resolve the recall question first, and compare any replacement by its own current manual and installation route.
