GE ADHE50BWF Dehumidifier review

Earlier GE 50-pint/day ADHE model with a 15-pint tank and lower-gravity drain connection; the exact page does not list the built-in pump shown on the PWF suffix.

A useful fit for

For an exact ADHE50BWF owner or earlier comparison requiring a 50-pint/day rated capacity with bucket or lower-gravity water removal, not an uphill pump route.

The main tradeoff

The 15-pint tank is much smaller than the daily rating, and the page does not list a built-in pump or Wi-Fi Connect. The larger 24.1-inch cabinet and 41.1-pound dry weight also exceed the 25/35-pint bodies.

The GE ADHE50BWF is the 50-pint, no-listed-pump version of this Smart Dry family. It pairs a 15-pint tank with a 24.1-inch cabinet and a downhill gravity-drain connection. The exact page’s specifications do not list the built-in pump found on ADHE50PWF, and they do not list the Wi-Fi feature shown for ADHE50WWF; this suffix should be treated as its own earlier configuration.

This reference assessment uses the exact GE ADHE50BWF page, model-specific support entry, and shared ADHE25/35/50 owner manual. GE’s product page says no longer manufactured and out of stock online; this review is for identification, older-model comparisons, or a specific earlier listing.

A 50-pint rating in the larger family cabinet

GE lists 50 pints per day, 41.1 pounds net, and dimensions of 24.1 inches high by 14.4 wide by 11.4 deep. It has a 15-pint bucket, a 1.6 L/kWh integrated energy factor, 200/160 CFM high/low dry airflow, top discharge, and a 115-volt electrical rating. These published figures distinguish it from the 25- and 35-pint models, which have an 8.5-pint tank and a shorter 19.4-inch body. They do not guarantee a room-area result: a segmented basement or open stairwell can behave differently from an enclosed space, and actual extraction changes with humidity, temperature, ventilation, and moisture entry.

The larger bucket holds more than the 25/35-pint tank, but it still holds only 15 pints against a 50-pint daily rating. It can therefore need emptying well before a full day in damp conditions. The full-bucket alarm and automatic stop are useful safeguards, but a tank is still an interruption. Leave room in front to remove it and above the cabinet for the top outlet.

Gravity drainage is the route to plan around

For collection, keep the tank correctly seated and empty it when full. For continuous drainage, the manual documents a garden hose connected at the side outlet and run downhill to a floor drain. The garden hose is not included. The bucket must be replaced and seated after the connection; the machine stops if the bucket is removed or not correctly positioned. This is not a documented bucketless setup.

Do not confuse the broad family manual’s pump instructions with this exact BWF model. The ADHE50BWF product table does not list a built-in pump, while the ADHE50PWF exact page explicitly does and describes an included hose and up-to-16-foot lift. If the outlet is above the appliance or the hose needs to climb, the BWF is not supported for that plan. If the drain is lower than the unit, the no-pump arrangement can be simpler than maintaining a lift hose, but the slope and tank seating still matter.

Controls: humidity-responsive fan, not a documented app model

The manual gives a 35%–80% relative-humidity target in five-point increments or Nonstop operation. Smart Dry compares the set target with actual room humidity and adjusts fan speed automatically; the three manual options are High, Medium, and Low. The display’s room-humidity readout is specified as ±5% accurate. Other listed features include a 24-hour on/off timer, auto restart, auto defrost, full-bucket shutdown, and a washable permanent-mesh filter with a reminder at 250 operating hours.

ADHE50BWF’s exact specification row does not list Wi-Fi Connect. A generic SmartHQ/Wi-Fi section on a GE page template is not sufficient to assert that this model can be controlled by an app. The distinct ADHE50WWF SKU has an explicit Wi-Fi Connect entry; do not transfer it to BWF. Similarly, the exact page does not establish ENERGY STAR certification, an acoustic rating, or an advanced filter system. Those are unknown rather than affirmative matches if an essential shopper condition depends on them.

Care, fit, and winter limits

GE asks for 18 inches of clearance around the unit, level support strong enough for a full tank, and an indoor residential environment between 41°F and 90°F. It says to close windows and doors for effective operation and warns that adjacent enclosed spaces need air circulation. Low-temperature operation and automatic defrost are listed, but they do not change the stated 41°F minimum. Clean the rear filter with warm soapy water at least every 250 operating hours, dry it before reinstalling, and wash the bucket every few weeks. Do not run the machine without its filter.

The body is larger than the 25/35 versions and weighs 41.1 pounds before water. Casters help with movement on smooth, flat floors, but they do not make stairs or a full bucket effortless. Measure the route through doorways and the area needed to pull out the reservoir; add the manual’s air-space requirement rather than planning around cabinet measurements alone.

When the BWF suffix is the right reference

ADHE50BWF is useful when the exact model label matters and the room needs the family’s 50-pint/day rating with bucket or lower gravity disposal, without assuming a pump or Wi-Fi. The 50-pint ADHE50WWF shares the published cabinet, tank, airflow, and energy-factor figures but lists Wi-Fi Connect; the ADHE50PWF instead adds a pump and weighs more. That split matters more than their common white housing.

GE says this BWF model is no longer manufactured and online availability is out of stock. The separate support page still displays May 2025–Present as its manufactured date, so current lifecycle information is not fully consistent. Keep it in the earlier-model pool, not among default current recommendations. A current seller’s existence, remaining warranty, and the actual condition of a secondhand pump-free unit need separate confirmation. If the requirement is a raised drain, verified app control, or current stock, compare only exact models that document that feature and lifecycle.
