Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can AHG25LA meet a 25-pint minimum if I can drain downhill?
The exact specification row lists 25 pints/day and its manual documents bucket or gravity-to-lower-drain use.
Explore this need in the finder →Will the shorter AHG25LA clear a 21-inch height limit?
Its exact table lists 20 7/8 inches high; its much greater 17 1/8-inch depth and bucket access still need checking.
Explore this need in the finder →Can AHG25LA lift water to a 12-foot raised outlet?
No. Its exact manual documents bucket and gravity paths and says the fitted bucket must be in place; it establishes no pump or maximum lift.
Explore this need in the finder →The discontinued GE AHG25LA is the stronger reservoir-first member of this older AHG pair: GE lists a 25-pint daily rating and a 24-pint bucket. That large tank can reduce emptying frequency compared with a six-pint model, but it does not make the appliance unattended or overflow-proof. The bucket-full switch still stops operation, and its installation has to leave room to reach the tank.
GE’s exact AHG25LA product page and model-specific support page identify this U.S. model. The support page links the 49-7379-2 owner’s manual, whose cover lists AHG25, AHG40 and AHG50. GE dates AHG25LA manufacture from January 1999 through December 2021 and says it is no longer manufactured.
The exact GE page image is a small front view of a pale cabinet with horizontal louvers and top controls. The preserved 175-by-225 image is linked by the AHG25LA page; GE does not label whether it is a photograph or a rendering. It cannot show the internal drain arrangement.
Almost a day’s rating in the tank
GE’s exact specification row lists 25 pints per day, a 24-pint bucket, two fan-speed selections, 450 watts, 5.7 amps at 115 volts, and a cabinet 20 7/8 inches high, 12 5/8 inches wide and 17 1/8 inches deep. The 24-pint bucket is unusually close to the daily rating on paper. That may mean fewer emptying trips than the AHG20LA’s six-pint bucket under the same conditions, but a rated 25 pints is not a forecast of the water any particular room will produce.
The body is shorter than AHG20LA but substantially deeper. Check the real placement footprint, front bucket clearance and access to the hose port; dimensions do not include the space needed to pull a full tank or route a drain. GE does not list the net weight in the exact table material reviewed here, so a dry-weight limit remains unknown. A full bucket adds water and handling effort.
Local control, two speeds and predictable shutdown
The 49-7379-2 manual describes a humidity control that can be moved between OFF and CONTINUOUS operation, with a dial-like intermediate setting for the desired amount of drying. The exact product page lists two fan selections, giving the owner a high/low choice rather than a single fixed speed. The unit has a bucket-full shutoff, auto-defrost and washable rear filter. A manually selected speed and automatic frost protection are useful routine controls, not an app or a remote humidity reading.
The manual allows the owner to select the water-level shutoff: the dehumidifier can stop when the bucket is about half full or three-quarters full. The switch only works when the bucket is in its proper position. The higher fill setting may mean fewer interruptions, but it also leaves less margin before a full tank is handled; follow the manual’s water-level instructions and do not defeat the shutoff.
Three gravity arrangements, all centered on the bucket
The exact manual describes hand-emptying the bucket, connecting a water hose to the bucket’s lower-left nozzle and directing it to a floor drain, or placing the unit above a floor drain after making the described nozzle opening. GE says the bucket must be in place for its water-level switch to work. These directions support gravity drainage only when the outlet is lower and the hose is routed properly; they do not document a built-in pump or a vertical lift limit. The hose’s inclusion in a particular used listing is not established by the manual.
That makes AHG25LA a plausible reference when a lower drain is available, but a poor evidence-based choice for an elevated sink. A larger tank does not add a pump. If your drain is above the unit, compare a current exact-model pump option such as the Midea Cube pump model or Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1; check their own tank requirements and lift limits rather than transferring features to AHG25LA.
Placement and filter care remain hands-on
GE advises closing outside doors and windows and avoiding placement where airflow into the rear coil or out the front grille is blocked. The manual notes that an adjacent closed closet will not dry without air circulation. The washable rear filter should be checked and cleaned at least every 30 days, then dried before reinstalling it. Unplug the appliance before cleaning the case, grille or filter. GE’s product page does not establish Wi-Fi, a charcoal filter, sound level or current energy certification for this suffix; those unknowns should not be inferred from other GE models.
Use this page for an exact earlier appliance
AHG25LA suits existing-owner research or an exact older listing where a 25-pint rating, a large 24-pint tank and a lower drain route fit the room. GE says it is no longer manufactured, so this is not a current new-purchase recommendation. Verify actual operation, tank condition, seller terms and parts separately. Its 25-pint rating is higher than AHG20LA’s 19-pint technical row, while its tank is four times larger; the tradeoff is a deeper body and a manual that still requires bucket attention.
For a new purchase, compare the drain and tank first, then fan choices and cabinet fit. The Frigidaire FHDD2234W1 is a current 22-pint model with app control and a different tank and maintenance arrangement, not a simple AHG25LA reissue. Use the earlier-model option only for comparing a specific installed or used appliance, not to turn a retired GE page into a current shortlist.

| Controls and settings | The manual describes OFF/CONTINUOUS humidity control with an intermediate drying setting, two selectable fan speeds, automatic defrost and a full-bucket shutoff. The water-level switch can be set to stop around half-full or three-quarters-full; the bucket must be positioned correctly. |
| Water-removal setup | Manual permits a hose connected to the lower bucket nozzle or a floor-drain arrangement with the unit above the drain; bucket must remain properly installed for the water-level switch. The exact manual does not establish a built-in pump, upward lift, a maximum pump height or a provided hose. |
| Care and operating limits | Check/clean the washable rear filter at least every 30 days and keep the grille airflow clear. GE’s manual says a closed adjacent closet will not dry without air circulation. No Wi-Fi, sound rating, charcoal insert or current energy listing is established for this exact suffix. |
